PICS: Neil Armstrong's 18k gold watch auctions for over R37M in Massachusetts

702's Bongani Bingwa speaks to Vicky Turner (standing in for Adam Gilchrist) to unpack global stories making headlines.

Listen below:

Neil Armstrong, the first person to walk on the moon, has made headlines again - this time for the record-breaking price of his watch at an auction.

Earlier in April, Armstrong's 18-karat yellow gold Omega Speedmaster watch sold at auction for over $2 million (over R37 million) in Massachusetts, says Turner.

The watch was gifted to Armstrong and other Apollo 11 astronauts after their mission to commemorate the historic moment.

The watch features an inscription on the back which includes Armstrong's name with the phrase: "to mark man's conquest of space with time, through time, on time."

A portion of the proceeds from the sale will benefit charities chosen by Armstrong's son, Mark, adds Turner.
