CAPE TOWN - Mitchells Plain has been a focal point for gang violence recently and in response, police have deployed more officers.
That's led to at least one successful operation by officers, as police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi explains.
"They recovered a pistol hidden on the premises for which they detained a 26-year-old man who is affiliated to a known gang grouping for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition."
In some other recent arrests in the Western Cape, officers have confiscated 52 sachets of tik and a small quantity of mandrax, when they apprehended a 35-year-old man in Saldanha Bay.
In Grabouw, more tik was seized when a 40-year-old man was searched.
