Police Minister Senzo Mchunu was placed on special leave following allegations by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Mkhwanazi alleges that Mchunu is involved in criminal interference in police matters.
The DA says that Mchunu is under criminal investigation for lying to parliament and committing fraud.
“We have received communication that a senior Lieutenant-Colonel has been appointed to the case.”

The DA and other parties have also gone to Parliament’s Ethics Committee to lay complaints against Mchunu.
Nodada says the party believes that the South African Police Service is taking this matter seriously.
