Primedia Cares and CapeTalk are proud to announce a powerful new partnership with the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation, dedicated to promoting ocean conservation through education, inspiration and action.
This dynamic initiative aims to deepen public understanding of ocean health, and empower communities to play an active role in protecting our marine ecosystems—because every South African, no matter where they live, has a stake in the survival of our oceans.
The campaign has three core focus areas: education, inspiration and conservation.
Through targeted school outreach programmes, the initiative will highlight the critical issues impacting our ocean — from pollution to unsustainable fishing practices... and provide tangible ways for individuals and communities to make a difference.
From beach clean-ups to responsible seafood choices, audiences will be equipped and encouraged to take meaningful action.
Together, CapeTalk and the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation will bring listeners (both inland and coastal) closer to the ocean’s most pressing stories, scientific insights, and solutions through compelling on-air content.
"We are a purpose-driven organisation, we have been from day one, we're not only a straight tourist attraction... but more and more it's become imperative to raise awareness and inspire action for the future well-being of the ocean... what's been pleasing to see over the last decade is certainly more awareness of the ocean's plight."
- Michael Farquhar, CEO - Two Oceans Aquarium
Lamont explains that the partnership with Primedia Cares and CapeTalk was "a logical step" to increase awareness and education around the many threats the ocean faces daily.
"We are already in crisis sadly, but as the urgency increased, the aquarium wished to do more and more... so we're really building on the 30-year history of the aquarium with the education conservation research work that we do, so it was really driven by wanting to make a greater impact."
- Ann Lamont, Executive Chairperson - Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation
Taylor explains that this partnership made sense for Primedia Cares because it aligns perfectly with the company's value of "caring for society."
"Primedia Cares is the social impact arm of Primedia... and one of our values is caring for society and Ann has often said that if we have a sick planet, we have a sick society... so it is in our best interest to take care of our planet and our ocean. So, I think being an ocean city, it made all the sense in the world for CapeTalk to partner with the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation and really look at ways of how do we support their efforts, but most importantly, how do we educate listeners, how do we change our own behaviour, how do we get involved in really protecting this magnificent blue blanket."
- Trish Taylor, Head of Primedia Cares - Primedia
Taylor says Primedia Cares really wants to "highlight" and put a "spotlight" on the significant work the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation does, while "amplifying what they're already doing" and "accelerate their efforts."
"Part of our role is to not only get listeners on board and to not only educate children on marine biology and becoming future marine biologists, but also to have the difficult conversations and to see how we as a society and people can get involved, how we can get corporates involved, and how we can get government involved in terms of really protecting this important lung..."
