'Small Things Like These' is a haunting historical drama available on Prime Video.
It stars Cillian Murphy, Emily Watson, Michelle Fairley, and Eileen Walsh.
Directed by Tim Mielants and adapted by Enda Walsh from Claire Keegan’s acclaimed novel, the film, set in Ireland, explores the quiet moral reckoning of a man forced to confront the silence and complicity of a town dominated by the Catholic Church.
As the synopsis reads: “In 1985, devoted father Bill Furlong (played by Cillian Murphy) discovers disturbing secrets kept by the local convent and uncovers shocking truths of his own.”
"Cillian Murphy is just brilliant in this."
- Gayle Edmunds, TV and movie reviewer
"It's like an absolute masterclass in how to tell a story with sort of a script of about 200 words."
- Gayle Edmunds, TV and movie reviewer
This is not an easy watch, says Edmunds, but a necessary one.
She adds that the film leaves a lasting impact.
"It's quite an interesting piece of work to watch in a time when it's hard to stand up for what's right and it's because of the consequences in a place like where he lives can be quite huge and ghastly for everyone he knows and loves."
- Gayle Edmunds, TV and movie reviewer
"I absolutely loved it. It is very dark...I wouldn't say sit down to watch it for a cheerful one and a half hours."
- Gayle Edmunds, TV and movie reviewer
"The way it's been filmed is beautiful, the acting is superb, I just couldn't fault it..."
- Gayle Edmunds, TV and movie reviewer
