TSHWANE - City of Tshwane residents have been warned to brace for extreme weather conditions set to hit the city this weekend.

The South African Weather Service has warned of a cold front for most parts of the country starting on Sunday.

The severe weather with possible snowfall is expected to be accompanied by strong winds and damaging rains.

The City of Tshwane spokesperson, Lindsay Mnguni, explains: “There is also a risk of severe thunderstorms; possibly associated with damaging hail and/or damaging winds over some provinces, including Gauteng, during Monday and Tuesday.”

Mnguni has also warned residents to exercise caution to avoid weather-related disasters.

“As the temperatures drop, many residents rely on heating methods such as gas heaters, braziers (imbawula), electric and paraffin heaters, and open flames to stay warm. While these methods can provide much-needed warmth, improper use can lead to devastating fires, property damage, and serious injuries.”
