Contrary to the rumour mill, the SABC is not implementing a car radio license.
Social media was buzzing on Thursday as a fake statement pretending to come from the public broadcaster claimed it was implementing a car radio license.
It claimed vehicle owners were required to have a car radio license, regardless of whether they used them or not.
The SABC quickly debunked the rumour, noting that the statement was fake.
In a post on X, the SABC deemed it ‘disinformation’.
“The SABC is not considering implementing a car license. This is disinformation and does not reflect the policies, corporate plans, and values of the SABC.”
In a follow-up official verified statement, the broadcaster reaffirmed that it was fabricated and misleading.
Please note that this is disinformation. The SABC is not considering implementing a car licence. This post is fabricated and does not reflect the policies, corporate plans and values of the SABC. https://t.co/FDqaaP1Elw
