SANDF to hold repatriation ceremony for 2 soldiers killed in DRC

JOHANNESBURG - The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) will hold a repatriation ceremony for the mortal remains of two soldiers who died on a peace mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Captain Simon Mkhulu Bobe and Lance Corporal Irven Thabang Semono were killed when a mortar landed inside a military base in North Kivu last week.

Bobe and Semono were deployed as part of a (Southern African Development Community) SADC peace mission to support the DRC army, who have been battling M23 rebels.

SANDF spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini said the army will deliver the remains of the fallen soldiers to their families at Waterkloof Air Base on Wednesday.
