On Thursday, Kelly Smith, the mother of missing girl Joshlin Smith, along with her co-accused Jacquen Appollis and Steveno van Rhyn, were sentenced to life in prison for human trafficking and kidnapping.
Judge Nathan Erasmus delivered the sentences at the White City multipurpose centre in Saldanha Bay.
Many residents who were in the courtroom applauded and cheered when the judgment was announced.
“Judge Nathan Erasmus must be congratulated because he has taken this issue to the heart of that community. He is saying to the community, 'We see you and we will say her name.'”

Joshlin Smith disappeared from her home in Middelpos, Saldanha Bay, in early 2024, and the search for her is ongoing.
