While only outpatient visits and medication collections were still operational, those too have now been affected.
In the early hours of Wednesday morning, firefighters braved icy conditions to extinguish the flames that broke out around 5 am.
The affected area has since been sealed off and emergency services remain on high alert for any flare-ups.
With large sections of the hospital closed, patients in need are being redirected as health officials scramble to stabilise the situation and chart a path forward.
No injuries have been reported, but the facility remains on divert and is not accepting new patients.
Authorities are urging the public to stay away from the area as the investigation continues.
Another fire has broken out at Tembisa hospital — this time in the outpatient department.
