Another weekend is almost upon us and if you LOVE adventure, fitness and fun - Liezel van der Westhuizen shares which events are just for YOU around the Cape:

Meiringspoort Mountain Bike & Trail Run Challenge 2025 

When: Saturday, 17 May 2025, 7am 

Where: De Rust, Western Cape

About the event: celebrate the 10th edition of this iconic mountain biking and trail running challenge in the stunning Meiringspoort valley.

Whether you're chasing a podium or just want a day in nature with medals and meat on the braai—this one's got it all!

MTB distances & entry fees

  • 26km – R280 (Min age 13).
  • 41.5km – R350 (Min age 15).
  • 61.5km – R400 (Min age 19).
  • 61.5km E-Bikes & Tandems – R400 📌 CSA license required. Day license = R50 extra.

Trail run distances & entry fees

  • 9.5km – R230 (Min age 14).
  • 19.5km – R300 (Min age 16).

Registration:

Friday, 16 May at 5pm.

Race perks:

  • Medals for all finishers.
  • Fully supported routes with first aid stations.
  • Scenic routes through the breathtaking poort & Klein Karoo.
  • Free race results online.
  • Optional donations to Eljada Kairos School, Oudtshoorn.

Extra flavour:

Friday night steak braai and beer tent from 6pm – bookings essential.

The Orca Harbour2Harbour Swim 

When: Sunday, 18 May 2025, 7am 

Where: Harbour Island, Gordon's Bay

About the event: Calling all open water warriors! Whether you're a first-time floater or a seasoned sea-stallion, the Harbour2Harbour Swim is your next big splash on the fitness calendar.

Choose your challenge:

  • 1.6km Swim (from Gordon’s Bay Harbour to Harbour Island).
  • 3km Swim (loop from Harbour Island & back).
  • 4x400m Relay – team up for some seriously splashy squad goals.

All swimmers get a:

  • medal.
  • jam-packed goody bag.
  • vibe-filled morning with live entertainment & lucky draw prizes.
  • podium prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each distance (men & women).
  • relay champs also stand a chance to take home serious bragging rights!

Trial Angels Open Day: Ride, Connect & Shop  

Where: Saturday, 17 May 2025, 8:30am

When: Ridgeback Wine Estate, Paarl

About the event: Trail Angels is the largest female mountain biking club in South Africa. This isn’t just a ride—it’s a full MTB experience with sunshine, trails, coffee, and great company. Perfect for all levels, with 4 guided routes to choose from, expert support, and loads of fun.

Clicks Super Tri Winter Series #1

When: Sunday, 18 May 2025, races start every half hour from 7am.

Where: Cape Town, Western Cape

About the event: If you’re looking to heat up your winter fitness routine, the Clicks Super Tri Winter Series is where it’s at! This is the first of three indoor-friendly triathlon-style events—perfect for both newbies and seasoned athletes looking to stay race-ready this winter.

What to expect?

You’ll tackle a heated indoor swim, op onto a stationary watt bike, and finish strong on an outdoor cross-country run that weaves through tar, track, and a scenic greenbelt.

Choose between:

  • Super Sprint: 400m swim, 10km bike, 2km run.
  • Sprint: 600m swim, 15km bike, 4km run or go team-style with a three-person relay—each member taking on one leg.

Bonus:

Do more than two events in the series and you’re in the running for the grand prize and an invite to the end-of-year finals.

No late entries—pre-enter online before Thursday, 15 May.
