Social media reacts to Ozzy Osbourne's death: 'It's very sad news'
Tributes for The Prince of Darkness are pouring in from fans and fellow musicians.
CapeTalk's Clarence Ford speaks to Barbara Friedman about trending online stories.
Listen below:
Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary frontman of Black Sabbath and one of the founding fathers of heavy metal, passed away on Tuesday, 22 July, at the age of 76.
“He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family’s privacy at this time,” the surviving Osbournes said in a statement.
The news comes just weeks after Ozzy performed a powerful farewell concert in front of 42,000 fans at Villa Park in his hometown of Birmingham.
Renowned for his raw, unmistakable voice and theatrical style, Osbourne earned the nickname 'The Prince of Darkness', a moniker that followed him throughout both his groundbreaking career with Black Sabbath and his wildly successful solo ventures.
Friedman says the sad news came as a shock last night.
"It's very sad news. It was a shock last night. Just so soon after his farewell concert... so many people on social media saying he did know that this was his last moment... he was on stage five of Parkinson's disease. He wasn't able to walk unassisted; he was strapped to that throne which came up from below the stage, and that was how he was able to hold on and sing."

Friedman pays tribute to Osbourne by remembering the iconic hit, 'Mama, I'm coming home'.
Tributes are flooding social media as fans and fellow musicians alike remember the icon for his unmatched contributions to music, his larger-than-life persona, and the legacy he leaves behind.
It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love.

Ozzy Osbourne’s Final Appointment with Eternity
I was 16 the first time I heard “Mr. Crowley.”
The way it began…haunting organ, crashing guitar…grabbed me by the throat. I didn’t know what the lyrics meant. I didn’t care.

Remembering my brother in music, Ozzy Osbourne. I've always looked back at this commercial we shot in '03 so fondly.
