Springboks vs Barbarians: Road closures, park-and-ride options for Saturday

The Springboks are playing Barbarian FC in the Qatar Airways Cup at DHL Stadium on Saturday, 28 June 2025. The City of Cape Town is rolling out an expanded free Park & Ride service for spectators.

A massive turnout is expected at DHL Stadium for the historic rugby match.

South Africa vs Barbarians: 'Start of a BIG season for Springboks' - Craig Ray, sports journalist

It will be the British-based invitational club’s first-ever tour of South Africa.

The game will mark the start of the Springboks’ five-month international season, which will also include the Castle Lager Incoming Series, the Castle Lager Rugby Championship and the end-of-year tour of Europe.

The Qatar Airways Cup fixture against the Barbarians is the first of two Springbok matches coming to the Mother City this year. 

The Boks will also host Australia in August as part of the team’s defence of the Rugby Championship. 

Stadium gates for this Saturday’s game are expected to open at 12 pm.

The free MyCiTi shuttle service for spectators will ferry matchday ticket holders from Century City, CTICC, Thibault Square and Civic Centre stations.

The first shuttles from all designated Park & Ride sites will depart at 12:00, with return services operating until 21:30. 

Park & Ride Facilities: 

• Civic Centre: free parking bays will be available to match ticket holders from 11:30 on a first-come, first-served basis. Entry is via Hertzog Boulevard (incoming) and Civic Road.
• Century City (Steelbridge E-Parking): Limited free parking bays for ticket holders on a first-come, first-served basis. Access via Century Boulevard. The area will be monitored by security; however, parking is at the owner’s risk. Paid parking is also available at the mall.
• CBD On-Street Parking: Free from 13:00.
• Paid parking is also available at the Parkalot on Jack Craig Street and at the Harbour Arch on Harbour Arch Boulevard.
• From here, spectators can take a free MyCiTi bus from the Civic Centre.
• A designated e-hailing drop-off and pick-up area will be located at P13 on Green Point Main Road, between York Road and Wigtown Road.

Road closures and restrictions in the Green Point Precinct and Granger Bay on Saturday, 28 June 2025:

Fritz Sonnenberg Rd

McDonald's (P3) & Vlei Road: Full closure in both directions for 24 hours.

Stephen Way

Fritz Sonnenberg & Hamilton's RFC: Full closure in both directions from 6 am to 10:30 pm.

Vlei Road

Helen Suzman Boulevard & Fritz Sonnenberg: Full closure in both directions from 6 am to 10:30 pm.

Fort Wynyard Street

Portswood Rd & Granger Bay Boulevard: Full closure from 6 am to 10:30 pm.

Granger Bay Boulevard

Helen Suzman Blvd & Beach Road: Restricted access from 6 am to 10:30 pm.

To reduce congestion and help fans get to the stadium on time, we've worked closely with the event organiser to provide alternatives to single-occupancy vehicles. We strongly encourage all spectators to make use of the park-and-ride system, which is a convenient and reliable way to avoid delays and ensure a smooth journey to the venue. The shuttle, with its dedicated lane to the stadium, will ensure that you beat the traffic and get to the stadium smoothly."
