SuperSport United sold

With the Betway Premiership season kicking off on 1 August, the transfer window has been buzzing with movement.

Major news broke on Tuesday after SuperSport United was sold to a Bloemfontein-based consortium for a reported R50 million.

This means the club will undergo a significant rebrand as it will be renamed Celtic United.

“SuperSport United sold, the franchise is done. Whatever else happened with them in the past and success is now a thing of the past… this is a new chapter.”

Marumo Gallants sign Jaisen Clifford

Despite much speculation that Clifford was on Orlando Pirates’ radar, the 29-year-old has signed with Marumo Gallants.

This follows a stint at the Bulgarian club Etar Veliko Tarnovo, which ended on 30 June.

“Jaisen Clifford, today (1 July), put pen to paper for Marumo Gallants.”

Kaizer Chief reloading for next season

AmaKhosi has made big moves this week, signing three new players; midfielder Ethan Chislett, left-back Nkanyiso Shinga and striker Flavio Silva.

Shinga in particular has fans excited.

The 25-year-old arrived from FC Alverca in a transfer reportedly worth R4.5 million, signalling a statement from Naturena.

“I know Chiefs fans have been saying their team doesn’t, but they did pay a transfer fee.”

There is speculation that former Orlando Pirates wing-back Thabiso Monyane is also set to join Chiefs.

His contract with the Buccaneers expired and he bid farewell after 13 years with the club.

“He could actually prove to be the best signing that Chiefs have made is he stays injury-free. He was looked at as a development player and never really given that respect… he wants to really prove himself.”
