Volkswagen, Volvo, and Hino recall vehicles over brake and seatbelt safety defects
If you drive a VW Golf 8, Volvo XC90 hybrid, or Hino 500 truck, you are urged to contact your nearest dealership immediately for a free safety inspection.

The National Consumer Commission has issued a warning to car owners after receiving recall notices from Volkswagen, Volvo, and Toyota South Africa.
The recalls involve safety-related defects in several models that could pose serious risks to drivers and passengers.

Volkswagen is recalling Golf 8 models due to a seat belt defect that may reduce passenger protection in an accident.
Volvo is recalling plug-in hybrid XC90 vehicles for a brake issue that can occur during downhill driving.
Toyota is also recalling thousands of Hino trucks because of missing or incorrect tools needed to release the parking brake in an emergency.

Volkswagen Golf 8
- 159 vehicles
- TSI and GTI models (sold between April and June 2025)
Volvo XC90 plug-in hybrid
- 26 vehicles
- Model years 2025 and 2026
Hino 500 trucks
- 6,662 SKD series (sold from May 2017 to December 2023)
- 77 CBU series (sold from May 2018 to December 2024)
Consumers are urged to contact their nearest dealerships immediately for a free safety inspection.
