A 1.8 metre alligator was spotted casually strolling around a motel in Virginia, USA in the early hours of Monday 16 June.

According to reports, the scaly creature made a break from its owner while at a rest stop on its journey from New York to a zoo in North Carolina.

“How does an alligator escape? The police turned up and it was duly escorted away... no harm done.”
