Britney Spears is making headlines for lighting a cigarette during a flight with her security team travelling from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, to Los Angeles on Thursday, 22 May.

The 43-year-old pop star lit a cigarette aboard a JSX public charter flight and was asked to put it out by a flight attendant.

"Britney seemed taken aback that the airline was upset about her lighting up a ciggy on a plane when nobody is allowed to do that anymore", adds Friedman.

Smoking on aeroplanes is a violation of federal aviation regulations.

Following the incident, authorities reportedly issued Spears a warning regarding her conduct at the airport after the flight.

The next day, Spears addressed the incident and apologised with a post on Instagram.

"I do so apologise to anyone I offended, but the flight attendants always make sure I’m way at the back of the plane anyway...", read the post caption.

Spears also shared in the caption that it was her first time drinking vodka.

“Confession, it was my first time drinking VODKA!!! I swear I felt so SMART !!! I was like wow what the heck is in there !!! I felt so clear and smart !!! And said I want a cigarette so bad !!! My friend put it in my mouth and lit it up for me, so I was like OH SO THIS IS A PLANE WHERE YOU CAN SMOKE !!!", the post continued.

Spears went on to apologise for her behaviour but suggested that contacting authorities was 'kinda much'. The 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' singer also described the flight attendant as 'weird' and claimed the woman had 'invaded' her space.

"If it were you or I, we would probably be banned from flying for life, or we would get a minimum of a fine, possibly a jail sentence, or a lifetime ban from most airlines..."

Spears also used the moment to draw attention to her flower choker, which she said is 'coming soon' in her future 'B tiny' jewellery collection.
