On Monday, 21 July, in Eccles, Salford, a double-decker Bee Network bus collided with the Bridgewater Canal Aqueduct on Barton Lane, tearing off the roof.
A passenger was thrown from the top deck, and three people — a 19-year-old woman and two men in their 20s and 40s — sustained serious injuries. All three remain in the hospital in a stable condition. More than a dozen other passengers also suffered minor injuries.
According to Greater Manchester Police, the bus had deviated from its expected route. Investigators believe the driver failed to heed multiple height restriction warnings, including signage and hanging chains, before the crash.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to come forward while an investigation is pending.
"It was also driving so fast, it's crazy...," notes Friedman.
