The overall murder rate in the Western Cape declined by 4% in the fourth quarter of 2024/25.

This followed a 7.9% decrease in the third quarter and an 8.7% drop in the second quarter, highlighting a steady downward trend.

Winde says these consecutive decreases are encouraging and show the progress of the Law Enforcement Advancement Plan (LEAP).

However, he says the murder rate is still shockingly high, and more needs to be done.
