The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial continued in the Pretoria High Court on 1 August 2023.

PRETORIA - The perusal of dockets linked to one of the accused in the Senzo Meyiwa trial has caused delays in the Pretoria High Court on Tuesday.

Monday’s proceedings were postponed to give the defence time to see the dockets of several crimes linked to Bongani Ntanzi.

Ntanzi is one of the five men on trial for the Bafana Bafana captain’s murder.

Meyiwa was shot while at the home of his girlfriend – Kelly Khumalo – in October 2014.

On Monday, the defence asked for access to dockets linked to Ntanzi including a Nongoma murder case.

On Tuesday, State advocate George Baloyi opened proceedings by declaring a dispute with the defence.

“My lord, a serious dispute has arisen between the defence and the State as regards the order that the court made yesterday [Monday]… the court ordered that the dockets, that is now the Nongoma docket and the other four dockets be perused here in court. In fact, the court remarked that they may not be taken home.”

Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng allowed the defence to read the dockets until 2pm.
