The Cape Youth Collective, who are one of the organisers of the protest, has highlighted South Africa's high unemployment, poor service delivery and poor education as some of their main concerns.

“Basically, we have planned an alternative SONA for people to voice their concerns. We feel like the SONA that the president is going to be doing is very far removed from the reality of the working class and people it should be speaking to,” said the Cape Youth Collective’s Faaria Theba.

Earlier Eyewitness News spoke to the South African Police Service and city law enforcement officials, who relayed that no official protests have been granted.
