TSHWANE - Democratic Alliance (DA) supporters arrived at the Union Buildings after marching with the party’s top brass on the streets of Pretoria on Saturday.

Party leader John Steenhuisen delivered the official opposition’s election manifesto as the party eyes the Union Buildings.

The party is, however, unhappy with President Cyril Ramaphosa’s delays in proclaiming and announcing the date for the country’s seventh democratic elections.

Supporters of the official opposition outlined their expectations of the DA should it manage to win the general elections later in 2024.

They’re expecting the organisation to not only address poverty and unemployment, but they’re also yearning for better basic service delivery, which is something they said the African National Congress (ANC) government is failing to provide.

They also told Eyewitness News that it makes no sense that 30 years into democracy, the majority of South Africans are still living hand to mouth.

“The first thing we have to deal with is the issue of corruption. If we can get it right there, and if we can get it right administratively with the right people, believe me, we will be able to achieve what we want to achieve,” said one supporter.

“The DA is the best party to do that because where we govern in the majority, we govern well. We’ve proven that we know how to govern, and that’s what you want – you want a party that can govern and that won’t steal the money,” another added.
