PRETORIA - The Democratic Alliance (DA) is gearing up to launch its national election manifesto in Pretoria on Saturday where over 15,000 supporters are expected to be in attendance.

The event is set to start with a march from Church Square to the Union Buildings before party leader - John Steenhuisen delivers its key commitments.

The official opposition plans to unseat the African National Congress (ANC) through a Multiparty Charter - a pact made up of like-minded parties.

DA youth leader Nicholas Nyati said Saturday’s event would show how the party has grown.

“This march is to show South Africans that the DA is more than ready. We are anticipating the biggest event that the party has ever held in its history. So, today [Saturday] is more than just a manifesto but truly a reflection that the DA is ready to enter the Union Buildings."

DA chief whip Siviwe Gwarube:

“We believe that South Africa cannot afford to have another five years of the ANC at the helm of government. We desperately need an alternative and we believe that the alternative is not only poised to take over, but we've identified a clear path to victory.”

Open top busses with DA branding on the streets of the capital could be seen on Saturday morning, inviting people to join the march, while hundreds of private security personnel and marshalls were spread out across the CBD.
