CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town has confirmed that the water in its most southerly suburbs was now safe to drink.

The areas include Simon's Town, Noordhoek, Fish Hoek, Ocean View, Glencairn Heights, Kommetjie and surrounds.

The city on Sunday issued an urgent notice appealing to residents to boil their water before it could be used for drinking and cooking.

The metro said that the latest sampling conducted by its scientific services staff showed that the water quality in the affected areas was on par with the national water quality standards.

According to the city, residents in the deep south could now rest assured that the water was safe for cooking and drinking.

The municipality said that there was no need for the households in these areas to apply the methods of boiling their water before use or using household bleach.

The city, however, emphasised that strict measures would continue to be implemented to ensure that residents were supplied with safe drinking water.
