The food programme at Stellenbosch University, #Move4Food, has been a beacon of light for hungry students.

Lester Kiewit speaks to Candice Egan, #Move4Food fundraiser.

Listen to the interview in the audio below.

Roughly 5000 students at Stellenbosch University (SU) have been left without food after not receiving their NSFAS funding.

Egan says that the astronomical rise in the cost of living is making the situation much worse as the NSFAS funding cannot keep up with students' needs.

As devastating as this situation is, they have some relief in the form of the #Move4Food fundraising campaign.

This campaign was launched in 2018 and has a goal of raising money to help sustain food security initiatives at the institution.

The student-led fundraising campaign has put forward a number of actions to fight the food insecurity at SU.

“The students saw the suffering of their fellow students and wanted to do something about it.”
- Candice Egan, #Move4Food fundraiser

Egan says that they offer nonperishable food, food vouchers, food banks, and more to support the hungry students who cannot afford to wait several days for their money to be released.
