JOHANNESBURG - It's another dry day at the taps for hundreds of Johannesburg households after a massive power outage hit Rand Water's infrastructure.
City Power said the Eikenhof pump station was struck by lightning over the weekend, affecting its electricity supply.
The problem is now made worse after a feeder board exploded on Monday night.
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said residents in Soweto, Roodepoort, Hursthill, Crosby, and Brixton will be mostly affected.
"This means that Rand Water is currently not pumping water and, unfortunately, no alternative supply is available. City Power teams reacted swiftly and are on site working on solutions to ensure that we bring power back on."
Mangena advised residents to brace for intermittent water supply throughout the day.
"We, unfortunately, anticipate this work to go until Tuesday evening. This may affect the water supply to Joburg and areas west of Johannesburg including Mogale City, Krugersdorp, Carltonville and parts of Brits and Rustenburg."
