Over 400 people displaced after blaze rips through Mangaung informal settlement in Philippi

CAPE TOWN - Over 400 people were left stranded following the fire that destroyed at least 200 shacks at the Mangaung informal settlement in Philippi.
Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue responded to calls earlier on Sunday as a blaze swept through the informal settlement.
According to the city, 40 firefighters were among resources deployed to the scene, to battle the blaze.
Despite a trail of destruction, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
“The blaze that was fanned by a very strong wind. By 08:40, firefighters managed to contain and extinguish the fire, leaving more than 400 persons displaced,” said the city's Fire and Rescue Spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
