During 702's elections town hall meeting in Katlehong on Wednesday, an elderly woman said service delivery in the community was almost non-existent.

KATLEHONG - Elderly residents in Katlehong say the African National Congress (ANC) government has failed to deliver its promises to improve the lives of historically disadvantaged communities.

They criticised the governing party for neglecting the people who voted them into power 30 years ago.

Dozens of residents gathered at a community hall in the township on Wednesday morning, where 702 hosted its second elections town hall meeting.

"I don’t know who I’m going to vote for, but one thing I can say is that the ANC has failed us."

This was the view of an avid ANC supporter, who said that the party had forgotten its values over the years.

This elderly woman said service delivery in the community was almost non-existent.

"We don’t have toilets, there’s no electricity as well. There are no roads. How do they expect elderly citizens to live under such conditions?"

Newly-elected Ekurhuleni mayor, Doctor Xhakaza, was set to respond to the concerns.
