JOHANNESBURG -The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has filed court papers to terminate its agreement with four service providers contracted to carry out the scheme's direct payment system.

NSFAS administrator, Freeman Nomvalo, announced this while providing an update on progress made since his appointment last month.

The termination of the contracts form part of recommendations made by Werksman Attorneys last year, after it was found that service providers were appointed irregularly.

Nomvalo said that court papers were filed on Friday.

"We are collaborating with the Special Investigating Unit on the matter, so, you will appreciate that I cannot say anything further because the issue is before the courts at the moment. But the process to cancel those agreements has commenced," Nomvalo added.
