Despite customs charges and the controversies, Shein still comes out on top.

Online clothing shopping is the second most purchased e-commerce category and Shein is dominating the pack.

This is according to research by the Market Research Foundation, reported by My Broadband, which looks at the country’s commercial and digital landscape between 2021 and 2023.

Clothing contributed to 42% of total e-commerce, followed by fast food, groceries, footwear, and technology and accessories.

The research found that 1.9 million people purchased clothing online in the past month.

Shein dominated among online clothing retailers.

Of the clothing purchased online by women, 35% comes from Shein, followed by Mr Price with 7%.

For men’s clothing, Shein accounts for 8%, followed by Sportscene with 4%.

In the children’s clothing market, Shein has 10% market share followed by Ackermans with 5%.

It seems the customs charges and controversies surrounding Shein aren’t going to stop people from purchasing from the Chinese retailer any time soon.
