CAPE TOWN - Citrusdal has again been hit hard by inclement weather.

It's been about a year since the Western Cape town was completely cut off - after heavy rains caused the main road to collapse.

Now, around 200 residents had to be evacuated and housed at a community centre.

The Cederberg Local Municipality says heavy rains have caused the Olifantsriver to overflow - resulting in the flooding of several access roads into Citrusdal.

Sixteen families living along the riverbank have been evacuated and have sought shelter at the Oranjeville sports ground.

Those affected will be provided with humanitarian support, including mattresses and food.

The municipality said no casualties or infrastructure damage was reported.

However, in nearby Wupperthal overhead power lines at the Kleindoring River have collapsed.
