CAPE TOWN - ActionSA's Atholl Trollip says he has overstayed his welcome in the Eastern Cape legislature and says he won't be going back to what he calls a "dreary" place.

Trollip is heading back to the National Assembly and will be ActionSA's most senior Member of Parliament (MP) after the party clinched six seats.

The party will also join the likes of other newcomers in Parliament such as the Patriotic Alliance (PA), Rise Mzansi, and Build One South Africa (BOSA).

The former Democratic Alliance (DA) MP and Nelson Mandela Bay mayor has been based in the Eastern Cape for the last number of years for both the DA and ActionSA.

But Trollip says he's now done with his home province which was won outright by the ANC.

"I've been in the provincial government i won't go back to the provincial government. I find it the most dreary place. you can do very little there," Trollip said.

He says provincial legislatures leave much to be desired.

"And frankly the performance of the provincial legislatures right across the country they might as well not exist as far as I'm concerned," added Trollip.

But with party leader Herman Mashaba and chairperson Michael Beaumont stepping back from parliament, it will now be up to Trollip and five other Mps to lead the party’s cause.
