Africa Melane catches up on the latest fitness trends with Liezel van der Westhuizen.

As Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour continues across the world, many have wondered about the pop star’s fitness regimen. 

After running across the stage, dancing, and singing night after night...touring is hard work.

“Taylor Swift is getting ready to perform on stage, so she is performing like an elite athlete. Her concerts are about two hours long so she has to give a proper concert… it really is a full body work out.”

Van der Westhuizen breaks down her off-season routine:

  • Swift incorporates rest days for muscle recovery and to avoid burnout
  • Strength training
  • Cardio workouts, including running and high-intensity interval training
  • Core workouts are big for her, including Russian twists and Pilates
  • Flexibility training – yoga and stretching to improve flexibility and reduce the risk of injury. 

On tour she does maintenance workouts – shifts are much shorter and more frequent sessions focusing on stability and mobility. 

This also includes the addition of vocal training.

“Practicing singing while running on a treadmill to simulate onstage performance demands. Dance rehearsals double up as her cardio and her nutrition is also very big.”
