CAPE TOWN - The African National Congress (ANC) said that creating a stable government was the one thing that all parties in its government of national unity (GNU) shared.
On Thursday night, the party’s national executive committee met in Cape Town to receive feedback from members who have been negotiating on its behalf.
ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula said that the party had made agreements with a majority of organisations that were represented in Parliament.
He said that while they shared many differences, the result from the elections showed that people did not want the ANC to govern alone anymore.
Mbalula said that talks of the ANC losing its identity were being overblown.
"Let's remind you that in 1994, we came into a government of national unity even with people who took us to jail. Did we die? We didn’t. Did we survive that moment? We did. Did we deliver for our people? We did."
Fikile Mbalula, ANC Secretary General, said he understands the anxiety from the public.

Mbalula said the ANC has been a victim of fake news during these discussions.
He said the ANC is “engaging maturely” with political parties and it’s time to stop the mudslinging. TCG
