NUMSA issues Ford SA with two-day strike notice over employee bonuses

JOHANNESBURG - NUMSA said that it served Ford South Africa with a two-day strike notice over employee bonuses.

This after failed wage negotiations between the union and the automobile manufacturer at the CCMA offices in Pretoria, last month.

NUMSA said that the commissioner issued the certificate to strike after picketing rules where concluded.

The union said that it rejected Ford management’s stance that it could not pay bonuses, adding that they would take to the streets on Thursday if they failed to come to the party.

NUMSA spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola said that the reason for the strike was that Ford was refusing to share its profits with workers.

"Our members are the creators of wealth and Ford has benefitted hugely from the sweat and labour of workers. It [Ford management] pretends not to understand the demand and they keep claiming it is impermissible. We reject this with the contempt it deserves."
