GNU parties have enough in common to have a seamless first Cabinet lekgotla - analyst

JOHANNESBURG - While some might expect parties in the Government of the National Unity (GNU) to be at loggerheads on policy issues at the first Cabinet lekgotla this weekend, analyst, Dr Ongama Mtimka, said that the parties had enough in common to pull off a seamless meeting.

At least nine points in the statement of intent, which has been signed by the parties in the GNU, are aligned with the country’s Constitution.

Nelson Mandela University’s Mtimka said that he did not see any drastic changes to policies currently in place.

"Whatever differences that are going to manifest will be negotiated through the mechanism of those nine points that the parties have already signed as part of the statement of intent, which will make the process seamless."
