CAPE TOWN - The George Regional Court has sentenced a man to 27 years direct imprisonment for killing his wife of 14 years.
Andrew Fleming handed himself over to police shortly after the crime in April last year.
A plea and sentencing agreement revealed that Andrew and Karin Fleming had an argument related to his claims that her family was interfering in their marriage.
The 43-year-old admitted to jumping on the deceased while she was lying on their bed and then grabbing a knife and stabbing her when they fell off.
He only stopped to check her pulse after she stopped screaming.
Fleming then washed his hands, got dressed and walked to the police station where he reported what he had done.
The court heard the accused was diagnosed with depression 22 years ago, for which he received medical attention.
He was subsequently diagnosed with bipolar mood disorder and continues to receive medical treatment.
