The Masque Theatre in Cape Town is placing the spotlight on the talent and creativity of young people.
They have introduced a Youth Theatre Club for children aged between 8 and 16.
"It's for theatre kids, for more creative kids. It's a space for children who don't necessarily fit into the traditional schooling system. We're so excited to be able to create this space that allows them to explore a side that isn't necessarily available in our traditional schooling system."
- Christine Kay, Masque Theatre’s Vice Chairperson and volunteer
"It's a less traditional, more informal environment but it's in a theatre. We have access to the wardrobe department and the props department. So we spent an hour playing theatre games with the kids which was such fun, we just got silly on stage. It's about allowing the kids to find their voice, to own their voice and to just really learn how to own the space they occupy because so many life skills that we need, we can learn as children."

At a cost of R50 per year, children can explore their creativity, imagination, and meet other creative kids and teens.
If you want to pop in and see what the programme is all about, it will cost R20 for the session.
Sessions take place once a month for two hours.
"The goal long-term is to have the club run for kids by kids."
- Christine Kay, Masque Theatre’s Vice Chairperson and volunteer
