JOHANNESBURG - Coming from a family that has always put God at the core of their existence, leading radio and television presenter Thabo Molefe, widely known as Tbo Touch, promises a religious event ideally unspoiled by class.
The Supersport Park Stadium in Centurion will be filled with the sounds of praise and worship when Tbo Touch hosts the 3rd Replenishment Concert.
This concert, now in its third year, is more than just another gig for Tbo Touch, it is a personal initiative that he holds dear.
The highly anticipated concert will be presented by gospel singer Mmatema Moremi and popular MC Sipho "Alphi" Mkhwanazi.
South African gospel artists expected to sing at the concert include Dr Rebecca Malope, Lebo Sekgobela, Dumi Mkokstad, Dr Tumi, Teboho Moloi, Thinah Zungu, Sbu Noah, Kabelo "Bouga Luv" Mabalane among others.
The origin of the Replenishment Concert
Tbo Touch spoke to Eyewitness News about the Replenishment Concert, saying: "I started the concert in 2020 after having a replenishment segment on my show even before I left Metro FM in 2016 - where we played gospel music. A first in commercial radio where a drive time show had a gospel slot.
"When I came back to the station in 2022, I continued with the slot theming Mondays, replenishment Monday and added a live gospel performance to it where gospel artists perform live from 17:00 – 18:00 each week on The Touchdown," he said.
He added that as a child he used to enjoy the Rand Easter Show, noting that it brings kids, parents and grandparents under one roof.
"This is what inspired me to design the Replenishment Concert. A religious event that is best untouched by class.
This will be the third edition, what will be different about this year's concert?
"We’re amplifying our VIP section, where we’ve brought renowned events’ organiser, Nono Events on board to glam up the area for our esteemed guests. We are adding more activities for our children's area too – which has trained au pairs looking after the kids.
"We’re going to have a mini theme park for them to enjoy, adding bubble houses, video games, face-painting, balloon twisters and more. We are also, of course honouring, Dr Rebecca Malope as our headline act for the concert amongst other gospel greats," said Molefe.
What impact has gospel music and music in general had on you?
"Given the pedigree of leadership I come from with my family, being born in a family that has always put God in the epicentre of everything, our existence, our drive. I'm the fourth generation of spiritual piety. Gospel has always been a part of my life as a Molefe," he said.
What are your goals for the event?
"To make it bigger and better each year and have each attendee leave spiritually fulfilled," explained T-bo Touch.
How many people are you expecting?
"10 000+"
