JOHANNESBURG – Mzansi Ballet has an ace up its sleeve with a thrilling take on dance.

The dance company seeks to enrich the country's history of dance with a reimagined production of French composer Georges Bize's Carmen - one of the most famous operas ever written.

Carmen is a love story that weaves in resentment and treachery.

Mzansi Ballet's rendition of Carmen is choreographed by the esteemed José Manuel Buzón Ruiz of Madrid's University of Juan Carlos, in association with Mzansi Ballet's Angela Revie.

It will see ballet's grace, flamenco's flamboyance and pantsula - a highly energetic dance style that stems from the youth during the apartheid era - come together to retell this classic story - and create a dance explosion.

For a dynamic exhibition of Carmen, Mzansi Ballet worked with the Spanish dance community in Johannesburg and Pretoria.

The fusion of dance, passion, and an unforgettable dining experience is scheduled to take place at the Pieter Toerien Theatre in Montecasino from December 11 to 22.

Mzansi Ballet is company that seeks, develops and nurtures young South African talent. Dirk Badenhorst founded the company in 2017.
