CAPE TOWN - Inclement weather conditions have been forecast in some parts of the country as grade 12s begin their matric exams on Monday.
The weather office has issued a number of warnings for severe thunderstorms and disruptive rain.
The unfavourable weather is affecting KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Mpumalanga and the Eastern Cape, among other regions.
The Basic Education Department's Elijah Mhlanga said that they were concerned, especially about the Eastern Cape and KZN.
"The Eastern Cape and KZN because of the layout of the land and those are the ones that have been prone to floods and the damage that's already there, some of the roads have not been fixed. You'll recall that learners got stuck in one part of the Pinetown district because they couldn't cross to the other side, so they had to sleep at the school overnight following the floods."
