Police officer accused of assaulting teen in Lutzville released on bail

CAPE TOWN - A police officer accused of assaulting a 13-year-old boy in the West Coast town of Lutzville, has been released on R2,000 bail.
Constable Jaco Oktober, who was stationed at Lutzville SAPS Detective Unit, appeared in the local magistrates court on Monday.
It's alleged he hit the teenager on his back, legs and face, using a sjambok after he was arrested for theft.
The incident was reported to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) and the SAPS member was arrested on Friday.
IPID's Phaladi Shuping: "The case against Constable Oktober was postponed to 29 October 2024 for a regional court date."
