ANC's Babalwa Lobishe elected new Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality mayor

JOHANNESBURG - African National Congress (ANC) councillor Babalwa Lobishe has been elected uncontested as the new Mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.
Lobishe was previously the Deputy Mayor in the metro, a position she resigned from on Thursday morning.

Former Mayor Gary van Niekerk was also elected deputy mayor, unopposed.
Speaking after her election, Lobishe said Eastern Cape Metro has many untapped economic opportunities.
“The Nelson Mandela region has so much to offer…we can drive the city to the highest level if we work together with the residents.”
