CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Government said it was encouraged by some aspects of the 2024 medium-term budget policy statement (MTBPS).
It was tabled by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana on Wednesday.
Western Cape Premier Alan Winde: "Specifically, I welcome the national government's commitment to fully implement structural reforms, particularly in the logistics sector. The ongoing Operation Vulindlela, which is going to help us with modernising our rail system, the freight of movement specifically to our ports... continue with the support of energy transformation."
Winde said it's only through dramatically improved growth that the economy would create the jobs so desperately needed to uplift the province's most vulnerable residents.
"I want to urge national government to double down on the implementation of the objectives of Vulindlela because that is going to not only just help the Western Cape but get the economy kickstarted. We need to make sure that we get investment into the creation of jobs in an enabled economy...that is the best way to bring about change to so many citizens."
