A look inside Premier Alan Winde's home: ‘I want people to feel welcome’ - Tracy Winde

Premier Alan Winde and his wife live in the historic Leeuwenhof Estate.
The estate has been the official residence of the Western Cape Premier since 1994, but was set up in 1963.

This estate has hosted many high-profile guests and foreign dignitaries, and Tracy says she is committed to making it a welcoming space.

One of her favourite parts of the estate is the beautiful garden which was planted in partnership with Kirstenbosch and the botanical society.
Leeuwenhof has a beautiful vegetable garden, and every week they donate fresh vegetables to feed the homeless.
Alan Winde says he tries to keep his family separate from politics, although it does sometimes come straight to the door.
Recently protesters showed up at his door at 2:00 AM to call for affordable housing.
“It is fine to come speak to me at 2 o’clock in the morning. It is not so cool for everyone else... But people arrived for a reason.”

Despite these occasional frustrations, he says it is important that people have their voices heard and there is a space for this on every first Thursday.
