CAPE TOWN - Build One South Africa (BOSA) is petitioning for the publication of the National Register for Sex Offenders (NRSO).
This after the discovery of a registered sex offender operating a medical practice in George.
BOSA said that accessibility to the register would ensure accountability and promote vigilance.
Child rights and protection consultant, Doctor Joan Van Niekerk: "People have to realise that our conviction rates and our reporting rates are so low that it doesn't really provide much protection because most sexual offenders remain in the community."
