CoCT says emergency call centre recorded over 2k incidents over the weekend

CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town said its Public Emergency Contact Centre recorded 2,025 incidents over a 48-hour period this past weekend.
Mayco Member for Safety and Security JP Smith said noise complaints and calls for medical assistance drove the increase, with calls spiking by 25% as the festive season sets in.

Smith said the centre also recorded 138 assault cases, 67 domestic violence incidents, and 81 motor vehicle and pedestrian accidents.
“It’s that time of year when parties and get-togethers are more frequent, and loud. While no one wants to be a Grinch or party pooper, I do encourage residents to party responsibly and consider those around them. Let your neighbours know if you’re having a party and commit to turning the volume down at a pre-determined time so that everyone is on the same page.”
