JOHANNESBURG - More than 380,000 people are expected to travel by air between 19 December 2023 and Christmas Eve.
Airports Company South Africa (ACSA)’s projections suggest that around 260,000 will be domestic travellers while 120,000 are expected to be international passengers.
The airports company and Border Management Authority (BMA) held a media briefing on Thursday morning, on their preparedness to manage the busy holiday season at the country's ports of entry.
ACSA CEO Mpumi Mpofu said systems are being implemented to handle the surge in travellers during this peak travelling period.
“We are expecting that tomorrow - the 20th [of December 2024], to be the busiest in the whole peak and that would give us 20,886 international travellers, both departure and arrivals and 39,423 domestic travellers.”
