Lester Kiewit speaks to Dieter Glockle, CEO of Easyway Vehicle Autogas.

Listen below.

Glockle broke into the LPG business market in 2019 and explains how an LPG tank works.

"An additional fuel tank can be added to your vehicle so that you can run your car with a duel LPG and petrol tank then choose to fill it with gas or petrol."

What are the benefits of using autogas?

It can be cost-effective: LPG is generally cheaper than regular fuel.

For example, in July 2023, LPG cost around R13 per litre, while 95 unleaded petrol cost more than R22 per litre.

Additionally, companies can claim tax incentives or rebates for using alternative fuels.

Burning LPG is somewhat less carbon-emitting than using petrol or diesel.
Conversion kits start at around R26,000, excluding VAT, and installation costs around R2,950, excluding VAT.
The exact cost depends on the car's model and installer.

"The
conversion can be retrofitted to any petrol vehicle," explains Glockle.

Glockle has completed around 400 tank conversions, mostly for the e-hailing market. He admits that it's a fairly new space and industry so people are hesitant to adopt the system.

"LPG is a little bit less efficient than petrol, which means you might use between 10% and 12% more gas than petrol," concludes Glockle.
