Cop to appear in court for murder of Protea Glen man

JOHANNESBURG - A police constable linked to the murder of a man in Protea Glen, Soweto, is expected to make his first court appearance on Monday.
The officer, who works for the Railway Protection and Security Services at Park Station was arrested in Atteridgeville on Thursday.
It is understood that the victim was at home watching a soccer match with his brother when he received a phone call asking him to come outside.

Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) spokesperson Lizzy Suping said the victim was allegedly shot by the caller, who was in full police uniform before fleeing the scene.
"The deceased was declared dead at the crime scene and had gunshot wounds on his chest. A bullet and cartridge were found at the crime scene. The deceased was then taken to the Diepkloof mortuary. On the day of the incident, the accused officer was supposed to report for night duty at his work base which is Park Station but never arrived. The accused is facing a murder charge."
